MEGACE - The Demo Collection 2CD

By the end of the eighties, thrash metal had established itself in Germany and was even playing a leading role worldwide. Even at this time, it was no longer enough for some bands to simply play fast and aggressively. Thrash metal was becoming more sophisticated and technical in many cases. In the USA, Watchtower took this to the extreme, and in Germany several bands followed suit on the Aaarrg Records label (Mekong Delta, Target). While other acts initially played straight and then flirted with progressive elements over the course of their careers (Holy Moses, Deathrow, Destruction), the Hamburg-based MEGACE put together a sophisticated package of thrash and prog right after the band's formation in 1988. They also had a special ace up their sleeve in singer Melanie Bock, who can do both: throaty thrash shouting and melodic vocals. This immediately set MEGACE apart from other bands and presented them with an opportunity, which they seized. After several demo tapes, their debut album, "Human Errors," was released, which received unanimous critical acclaim and still has fans all over the world today (reissue on CD and LP, Golden Core 2025). Their second album, "Inner War", was released belatedly in 1999 on the small label Angular (Sylvan, Vanishing Point, Lana Lane). But just as popular as the two albums are the first three demo tapes, which were also available as cassettes at the time: The Sign Of The Ape, This Is The News, and Pseudo Identity. Following the second album, the lesser-known tape "After Death" was released, which can also be heard here for the first time. The entire material was restored and remastered over months of work and is in no way inferior to the two albums in terms of sound. The CD version contains even more unreleased recordings. Numerous photos and illustrations, as well as liner notes, round out a perfect product. Many metal fans have been waiting for this for years...
