CASTLE BLAK - Another Dark Carnival CD

San Francisco Bay Area, 1986. Castle Blak's Kev & Regent returned from Europe after playing 8-track demos of Another Dark Carnival aka the follow-up to their audacious NWOBHM 1985 debut, Babes In Toyland, for a slew of potential foreign licensors. After promptly securing deals for ADC with Far East Metal Syndicate/Sony JVC (for Japan), and once again with Black Dragon (then High Dragon) for continental Europe, the band went into the studio and recorded the full and final version of the album. ADC was a recommended album in Billboard magazine, and this time Regent was producing. This, the band's sophomore release, on St. Claire's own label, Stiff Kitten, heralded the next step in Castle Blak's evolution. It also featured their biggest 'hit' at that time: "Don't Tell Me 'Bout Your Boyfriend" which was also featured on the Beachballs movie soundtrack. This new CD release of the classic CB LP has a killer new graphics refresh by band collaborator Yoshiki Igarashi/Scream Creative, and a few new/rare images and graphics from CB frontman, Regent St. Claire. ADC is a snapshot of a band, a scene, and a time. Castle Blak's unique Glam/Hard Rock style and pedigree, born of the ashes of the late 70's S.F. Punk scene, is on full display here. That same Punk/DIY spirit drove Regent to create his own label, Stiff Kitten, and even create the original cover art for Carnival ... himself. Other fun facts include the tiny writing bordering the labels on each side of the vinyl record: in black writing on the pink aka "Slut" side is written "you know you're soaking in it" an homage to the old Palmolive TV commercials, and it's also written in pink on the black aka "Balls" side. This 2025 CD release is also dedicated to CB's lead guitarist from 1986-1988, Chuck More', who passed away earlier this year. CB's drummer on ADC, Scott Sanders, also died, via murder/suicide, back in the late 80s, but we don't really talk about that.
