For metal fans in general and specifically for Manilla Road supporters there's no doubt that »Crystal Logic« has been their finest moment in their long and enduring career. Musicians are always on the look out for the 'lost chord'. Manilla Road mastermind Mark 'The Shark' Shelton has stated often enough that he is still striving to write that 'perfect song'. Well, in the case of »Crystal Logic« he has achieved to write and record a (near) perfect heayy metal album. And that is good enough for me …
»Crystal Logic« was originally released in 1983 on the band's own Roadster label (and eventually re-issued on Black Dragon Records from France in 1986 on blue vinyl). Both editions are long out of print and rate as first class collector's items today.
“»Crystal Logic« still stands the test of time and almost all our fans still regard this album as maybe the best we ever did,” is Mark Shelton's rather cautious comment on the huge impact this classic album has had on the band's fan base. “»Crystal Logic« was the first to really have a solid direction in Epic Metal. I guess you might say that the band was finally developing its own personality.”
Indeed Manilla Road's third album (after »Metal« and »Invasion«) is the one where they truly shaped their sound into something 100% unique. And the song writing itself was nothing less than timeless – it's a record for eternity! The epic “Dreams Of Eschaton” maybe being the best song the Road ever recorded. “Necropolis” is another classic (recently covered by US upstarts Borrowed Time). And there finally is “Flaming Metal Systems” (still included in the band's set list in the year 2013), originally recorded for the legendary Shrapnel compilation »US Metal III« and included on all re-issues of »Crystal Logic«, the fastest Manilla Road number ever (at least up until 1983).
